Accuvant to Provide the County of Los Angeles with Enterprise Email Security Solution

DENVER – July 15, 2009 - Accuvant, the nation's premier information security and risk and compliance management consulting firm, today announced that it has been selected to provide the County of Los Angeles, the nation’s largest county with more than 10 million residents and 100,000 full-time employees across 88 cities, with an enterprise email security solution that will protect its entire email network across a variety of applications and devices.

As a subdivision of the state, the County provides numerous services for its residents, including emergency and fire, child protection, infrastructure maintenance and healthcare. In an effort to provide secure data to citizens and constituents, the County sought a comprehensive email security solution that would protect information from security threats like viruses, spam and malware, in addition to helping their organization achieve compliance with various regulations, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

“With email serving as the primary communications channel for the large majority of organizations, security is of paramount importance,” said Dan Burns, senior vice president of sales for Accuvant. “We are pleased the County of Los Angeles selected Accuvant to help with their enterprise email security solution. The County can rest assured that confidential data transmitted via email will continue to be secure and that the implementation represents the best, most scalable solution for their environment.”

Prior to being selected, Accuvant participated in a rigorous, highly competitive selection process. This involved the participation of IT security staff from 13 of the County’s 38 departments who helped develop 229 technical and functional requirements, conducted vendor evaluations and performed very thorough proof-of-concept testing.

“After a year of extensive reviews we selected Accuvant to assess and deploy our countywide email security solution,” said Robert Pittman, chief information security officer for the County of Los Angeles. “Not only did they understand the business drivers but could provide the professional services to implement and maintain the installation. Now, every employee within each of our 38 departments that has a business requirement will have ability to send an encrypted email to protect the privacy and security of individuals. We are highly confident this solution will meet both current and future security and privacy legislation, and will reduce any potential risks and concerns from our constituents in one of the most populous counties in the nation.”

The email security solution deployed by Accuvant includes anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-phish, anti-spoof, encryption and quarantining. It also provides support for multiple applications and clients and offers enterprise-class scalability, availability, manageability, logging and reporting.
