-- David Litchfield Joins Accuvant LABS as Chief Security Architect --
Denver – Oct. 11, 2011 – Accuvant, the only research-driven information security partner delivering alignment, clarity and confidence to enterprise and government clients, today announced that it has acquired the assets of U.K.-based V3rity Ltd., a company renowned for its V3rity database forensics and analysis software, which significantly reduces the time to analyze compromised database servers. The terms of the transaction are undisclosed.
The acquisition adds world-leading database security technology and expertise to Accuvant’s already robust portfolio of information security solutions for enterprise, government and educational clients. By combining V3rity’s capabilities with the elite skills of the Accuvant LABS attack and response team, Accuvant will be able to provide deeper and more accurate database investigation of suspicious behavior.
“V3rity’s incredibly strong worldwide reputation made it an ideal candidate for Accuvant’s first international acquisition,” said James C. Foster, Accuvant senior vice president of strategic business development. “This is another example of how Accuvant is changing the game. Our clients and partners will immediately benefit from this unique combination of world class expertise and innovative technology.”
Also as part of the agreement, V3rity founder David Litchfield has joined Accuvant LABS as chief security architect. In this role, Litchfield will perform vulnerability research, consult with clients on unique engagements, develop exploits and tools, speak at security conferences, refine and enhance Accuvant’s database testing, analysis and security methodologies, and continue to further develop the V3rity database software as an open source tool.
“V3rity represents the only dedicated database forensics technology in the industry, and having seen the technology in action, I can say it is unmatched in its capabilities,” said David Bonvillain, vice president of consulting services for Accuvant. “This software and V3rity’s technical expertise perfectly complement Accuvant’s mission to provide clients with a full breadth of industry-leading security offerings. I’m really looking forward to having David take an active role at Accuvant. I know that he’s going to be an invaluable asset to our already impressive Accuvant LABS team, and his tool is going support Accuvant’s response capabilities as well as the evolution of our 24X7X365 security operation center.”
“While partnering with Accuvant LABS at a client site, I realized there was a lot of synergy between our two organizations,” said Litchfield. “I’m really excited to be joining the company and to work alongside Accuvant’s extremely knowledgeable and skilled researchers, assessors and consultants.”
David Litchfield is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities on database security. He is the author of Oracle Forensics, the Oracle Hacker’s Handbook, the Database Hacker’s Handbook, and SQL Server Security, and is co-author of the Shellcoder’s Handbook. In 2010, Litchfield was listed by CRN magazine as a “Security Superstar.” In 2003, he was voted as the “Best Bug Hunter” by Information Security Magazine. In the same year he discovered and developed two methods to bypass the exploit prevention mechanisms built into Microsoft’s Windows 2003 Server and consequently worked with Microsoft to improve them. He has found and helped to fix 24 security flaws in SQL Server, including the vulnerability that was exploited by Slammer, 17 in IBMs DB2, 22 in Informix, and more than 100 in Oracle database products.
V3rity Ltd. is Accuvant’s second acquisition in a year. The company acquired Baltimore-based cyber-security firm Ciphent in the fourth quarter of 2010.
